Our journey begins with the inspiring life of Elfnesh Moges, a hardworking Ethiopian mother who supported her family by grinding spices on a traditional stone mill. Her tireless dedication, patience, and unwavering spirit laid the groundwork for our future.
Watching her mother’s daily sacrifice, Hewan Kelemework (Managing Director and Founder of Hewan Companies) was inspired to dream bigger. She envisioned a future where her mother’s authentic, traditional heritage could be transformed into a world-class standard. Today, that vision has blossomed into Hewan Companies—a multifaceted business empire spanning across the fashion and food manufacturing industries, guided by the ethos of elevating Ethiopian excellence on the global stage.

Before we brought the authentic taste of Ethiopia to the world through Hewan Spice, Hewan Kelemework made a profound mark on the nation’s creative landscape through Hewan Fashion.
More than just a clothing brand, Hewan Fashion played a pivotal role in revolutionizing the Ethiopian fashion industry. By reimagining traditional garments like the Habesha kemis with modern elegance, Hewan Fashion brought local textiles to the forefront of high fashion.

The brand created hundreds of sustainable jobs for local weavers (shemanes), tailors, and designers, ensuring that traditional craftsmanship is both preserved and profitable.

The Hewan Foundation: Uplifting Our Community
The success of Hewan Fashion and Hewan Spice serves a much greater purpose: fueling the Hewan Foundation. We are deeply committed to investing heavily in education, nutrition, youth empowerment, and community development.
Our Core Philanthropic Initiatives:
Fostering the Next Generation of Designers: Giving back to the industry that started it all, we offer 100% free and partial scholarships for disadvantaged youth to acquire high-level design and tailoring skills through our dedicated fashion school.
Children’s Care Center: We have built and fully funded a residential care center in Debre Birhan for vulnerable children. The foundation covers all their essential needs, including housing, medical care, daily living expenses, and comprehensive education.
Youth Center Construction: Recognizing the immense potential of Ethiopian youth, we established a state-of-the-art youth center in Debre Birhan. This facility serves as a safe hub where young people can receive training, share knowledge, and incubate their creative ideas.
Community Feeding Program: To directly combat food insecurity in our immediate community, we host a dedicated monthly feeding program that provides rich, nutritious meals to 100 vulnerable individuals.
